Subject: Finding Your Own Road Less Traveled: A Reflection Inspired by Matthew McConaughey's "Greenlights"

Hey Friends

Welcome Back πŸ‘‹

Today, I want to dive deeper into Matthew McConaughey's book- "Greenlights" which was mentioned in an earlier post when Matthew was on Lex Fridmand podcast. I recently finished the book and it was incredible to say the least. This memoir is more than just a collection of life stories from an Oscar-winning actor; it's a treasure trove of wisdom and a guide to catching your own "greenlights."

This book was packed with so many incredible topics and the audio version is narrated by Matthew himself. For 6 hours I was immersed in these amazing stories and lessons. We could spend hours coming up with different journal prompts from the different topics in this book (Which I will eventually put together) Β But for time sake ill narrow it down.

One of the most impactful stories for me, McConaughey shares is his journey through Europe on motorcycles with his friends. Without spoiling it, Β This adventure was a turning point in his life, a time when he learned to become less needy and more self-reliant. It was during this journey that he discovered his own "road less traveled."

McConaughey says, "The road less traveled may not be a dirt road. For some it may be an autobahn, taking the road less travelled can make all the difference. Β But that road isn't necessarily the road with the least traffic. It may be the road that we personally have traveled less. The introvert may need to get out of the house, engage with the world, get public. The extrovert may need to stay home and read a book. Sometimes we need to get out there and sometimes we need to get in there. Some days our road less traveled is a solitary dirt trail, on others it's the subway on the 7 line."

This quote, especially in the context of the story, really struck a chord with me. This moment came at a point in life where he had found some early success in his career but was struggling to find that momentum again. Β It's a reminder that our personal growth often comes from stepping out of our comfort zones and exploring unfamiliar paths. The "road less traveled" is different for everyone. For some, it might mean seeking solitude and introspection, while for others, it might mean seeking new experiences and connections.

So, here's a question for you, inspired by McConaughey's wisdom:

What is your personal "road less traveled," and how can stepping onto this path lead to your own greenlights?

Take a moment to reflect on this question. What greenlights can you envision were you to take your personal road less traveled? Β Write down your thoughts, feelings, and any insights that come up. Remember, this is a personal journey, and there are no right or wrong answers. It's all about gaining a deeper understanding of yourself and your life's journey.

As we navigate through life, catching our greenlights, let's remember McConaughey's words: "The yellows and reds eventually turn green." With patience, resilience, and a positive mindset, we can turn our challenges into opportunities for growth and move forward on our journey if we are willing to let those greenlights into our life.

I want to Thank you all so much for the support, this blog, this newsletter is my own "road less traveled" and it means a lot to have you on this journey with me so thank you. Β

Please, give this book a listen. There are so many amazing stories and lessons that I know you will enjoy as much as I did.

Until next time, keep catching your greenlights!

With all my heart
