Subject: The Power of Music and Personal Evolution: Reflections Inspired by Jack Harlow's Journey
Hey Friends,
Welcome Back 👋
Today, I want to share with you some profound insights I've recently gleaned from a podcast episode that has deeply resonated with me. It's an episode from Tetragrammaton with Rick Rubin, featuring Jack Harlow, a rapper who has been making waves in the music scene since he was 12. This conversation is not just about music; it's about personal evolution, the power of music as storytelling, and the changing perspective on success.
In this episode, Jack discusses the content of his recent album and his desire to do more storytelling. He talks about how music, even if it isn't necessarily your story, can make you feel things in a new way. It's reminded me of a quote that has stuck with me over the years: "Music always has a way of meeting you where you are in life." This is what makes music such a beautiful form of storytelling.
Jack also opens up about his personal evolution. From a young kid in Kentucky who put himself and his dream out there from a young age, to the confident artist he is today. He talks about how people can literally watch him grow into the person he is today through YouTube, and I found that incredibly powerful.
Perhaps the most impactful part of the conversation was when Jack discussed his perspective on success. He talks about how it feels fragile and vulnerable, and how his desires have changed as he has progressed in his career. He shares that he has cut out many things from his life because what he has now is feeding more than just himself, and it's so precious to him that he doesn't want to do anything to ruin that. -"I don't want to sleep with random women, I don't want to do hard drugs or be shit faced in public." And then goes on to say the career path he's chosen have given him access to those things like he always thought he wanted but now that he's here he realizes: "Maybe it's better if I don't have those things."
So, here's a question for you, inspired by Jack's wisdom:
How has your perspective on success and what you desire in life evolved over time, and how has music or storytelling played a role in this evolution?
Take a moment to reflect on this question. Write down your thoughts, feelings, and any insights that come up. Remember, this is a personal journey, and there are no right or wrong answers. It's all about gaining a deeper understanding of yourself and your life's journey.
As we navigate through life, let's remember Jack's words and his journey. Let's embrace the power of music and storytelling, and let's continue to evolve and grow.
Until next time, keep embracing your authentic self!
With all my heart
Your Friend, Austin ❤✌
