Subject: Setting Personal Goals. A 30-Day Challenge Inspired by Jeff Nippard
Hey Friends
Welcome Back ๐
I think we all have that one goal that seems to perpetually linger on our to-do list. For some, it's a fitness-related objective, like losing body fat or maintaining strength. For others, it might be a personal or professional ambition. But regardless of what the goal is, the common thread that binds us all is the struggle to overcome the hurdles that stand in our way.
My personal journey towards fitness has been a rollercoaster ride, with the challenge of losing body fat while maintaining strength. I have spent nearly a decade on this teeter-totter. Reaching Body weight goals and setting Personal best's on many of my strength training lifts. I have also gained significant weight and missed the gym for months at a time. This journey, however, is not just about physical transformation. It's about discipline, consistency, and the will to keep going even when the going gets tough.
Jeff Nippard, a renowned fitness coach, has been an inspiration in this journey. His YouTube video, "The Smartest Way To Get Lean (Shredding Science Explained)"offers valuable insights into the science of consistency and self-monitoring in fitness. He brings on 3 experts to gain more perspective into the best way to reach your fitness goals.I found this very helpful for my own personal goals, so if your goal is in the realm of weight loss I would highly recommend checking this video out ๐
One of the key takeaways from Nippard's video is the importance of not relying too much on motivation at the beginning of a fitness journey. It's easy to underestimate the difficulty and give up, leading to a cycle of quitting and searching for the next fad diet or trend. The real challenge lies in addressing the issue of dietary adherence and relapse statistics.
To achieve a goal, you need to set some non-negotiable tasks - ones that you have to complete even on days when you're not feeling motivated.
This brings us to todays journal prompt, inspired by the idea of finally breaking the bad habit cycle and reaching our goals!
Journal Prompt:
Today, I want you to write down a personal goal that you've been putting off or one that you've tried many times but still want to accomplish. Now, break down what's been holding you back, what are the biggest struggles you have faced in the past. After you have that down, I want you to pick three non-negotiable tasks that you can commit to doing every day for the next 30 days that will bring you closer to reaching your goal.
To give you an example from my ย Journal. I am going to be pursuing some personal fitness goals over the next 30 days. I have decided on the 3 following non negotiable daily tasks
โข I will eat 1.5 grams of protein per pound of body weight every day.
โข I will do 30 minutes of low intensity cardio every day
โข I will log everything I eat/drink and all of the exercises including sets/reps I do every day.
These are the non negotiable's that I have chosen. I will put other things in place to help with my goals such as not eating fast food, getting better sleep and things like that. But if I decide to have burger on Saturday night with my family I won't let that be the determining factor of success for my goals but I will not stray from my 3 non negotiable's.
Embarking on a 30-day challenge is a powerful way to kickstart your journey towards achieving your goal. It's about taking small, consistent steps every day, even when you're not motivated. Remember, the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. So, take that step today and start your 30-day challenge.
