Subject: The Fresh Start Effect

Friends,

Today, we're going to explore a conversation from a recent episode of the Modern Wisdom podcast featuring behavioral scientist and author Richard Shotton. This discussion was extremly helpful for me as I am very interested in Learning about human emotion and why we create habits and patterns in our life. With that being said Let's dive right into it.

Richard Shotton's work revolves around the fascinating world of behavioral science. If you're an entrepreneur, a marketer, or someone looking to influence others, behavioral science is a field you should be intimately familiar with. Why, you ask? Well, it's because every time we engage with someone, whether it's our customers, our readers, or our loved ones, we're trying to influence their behavior in one way or another1.

To influence their behavior does not mean the same thing as to take advantage of. To put it simply, every interaction you have has a desired outcome and the choices you make up to that interaction play a crucial role in achieving that outcome. Take this blog for example, while I have many goals in this pursuit, my main goal is to influence you to utilize writing as a tool for self discovery and personal growth.

A thought from the podcast episode I found fascinating.

One of the most striking points from the podcast was the concept of the 'fresh-start effect'. This hypothesis suggests that people have an inherent desire to be consistent, and new time periods weaken the link with our past selves, making us more open to change. How many times have you felt that surge of motivation at the start of a new year or even a new week? That's the fresh-start effect in action. It's our brain's way of saying, "It's a new day, a new week, a new year. Let's do things differently this time"2.

Now, for our journal prompt of the day:

In what ways can you leverage the fresh-start effect to bring about positive changes in your life?

Remember, journaling isn't just about writing down your thoughts. It's about delving deep into your psyche and understanding the whys and hows of your behavior. It's about learning, growing, and transforming yourself one word at a time.

I want to thank all of you, especially the email subscribers for always rocking with me. It's been a little less than 2 months of this daily journal prompt series and the reaponse has been amaing.

Please stay tuned for more insightful discussions inspired by my favorite podcasts, books, videos and random thoughts. Also, please consider sharing this with friends, family, co workers or anyone else that might enjoy this journaling journey we're on. It's your support that allows me to continue to grow this community and I am so thankful of that. πŸ™πŸ»β™₯️
