📝📜 Daily Journal Prompt #90
Subject: Embracing the Wisdom of a Self-Made Merchant: A Lesson from John Graham
Hey Friends,
Welcome Back 👋
Today, I want to share with you a book I found on Ryan Holiday's most recommended book list. I recently started reading through "Letters from a Self-Made Merchant to His Son," a collection of letters filled with timeless wisdom from a self-made millionaire, John Graham, to his son, Pierrepont.
Letters from a Self-Made Merchant to His SonJohn Graham's letters, offer practical advice on life and business. His emphasis on the importance of hard work, quick thinking, and the effective use of knowledge made me reflect on my own journey and the lessons I've learned along the way.
One of the most impactful lessons from the book was the need to separate work and personal life. In our fast-paced world, striking this balance is often challenging. But what if we took a page from John Graham's book and made a conscious effort to separate our professional and personal lives? What kind of impact could this have on our mental health and overall well-being?
Another powerful insight was the value of seizing opportunities quickly. It made me think about the times I've hesitated or procrastinated, and what I could have achieved if I had acted promptly. It's a sobering thought, isn't it?
John Graham also stressed the importance of learning from our mistakes. It's a simple yet profound concept that we often overlook. We tend to view mistakes as failures, but what if we saw them as opportunities for growth and learning instead?
After immersing myself in this book, I was left with a question, one that I want to share with you all as our journal prompt:
How have the lessons you've learned in your personal or professional life shaped your journey, and how would you pass on this wisdom to your future self or a younger person in your life? What would a letter to your younger self contain based on these lessons?
Before I sign off, remember that embracing wisdom, learning from our mistakes, and seizing opportunities can lead to self-growth. Let's take a page from John Graham's book and reframe our experiences into lessons for growth. Let's start confronting the challenges that stop us from progressing. Let's start living with purpose.
Till next time, keep reflecting, keep growing, and remember – you are not alone on this journey.
With all my heart
Your Friend, Austin ❤✌
