Subject: Embracing Our Inner Caveman for Optimal Happiness

Welcome back 👋

Today, I want to share a book with you  that I found really interesting,  a book titled "The Awakened Ape" by Jevan Pradas. In his exploration, Pradas proposes the idea of a Paleolithic lifestyle (think cavemen!) and Buddhist meditation as a recipe for achieving the ultimate health and happiness​.

Now, you might be wondering, "What does living like a caveman and meditating have to do with my happiness?" Or "This guy listens to Jor Rogan too much." Which would be a fair assessment and It's a fair question, one that I found myself asking too. But Pradas presents this intriguing blend in a way that makes you stop and ponder - could the key to our happiness lie in the roots of our evolution and the serenity of our minds?

The Paleolithic lifestyle Pradas refers to isn't just about the physical - it's about getting the most out of our genetic makeup, living in harmony with nature, and fostering strong, supportive social relationships​.  And when it comes to Buddhist meditation, he isn't just talking about sitting quietly; he's referring to practices that can lead to deep states of bliss and an ego-melting understanding of self​.

And so, inspired by this book, I invite you to explore this unique combination in today's journal prompt:

Reflect on your daily life and habits. How can you incorporate elements of a Paleolithic lifestyle and Buddhist meditation practices into your routine? What changes can you make to align more closely with these ancestral and mindful ways of living?

As you pen down your thoughts, consider the following:

  • The food you eat: Are there changes you can make to eat a diet more in line with what our ancestors might have eaten?
  • Your exercise routine: Are there ways you can make it more enjoyable and aligned with natural movements?
  • Your social relationships: Are they supportive and fulfilling? How can you nurture them more?
  • Your exposure to nature: Do you spend enough time outdoors?
  • Your meditation practice: If you don't have one, consider starting. If you do, reflect on how you can deepen it.


While I disagree with aspects of the book regarding dietary choices which are to subjective I did find Pradas ideas fascinating and worth exploring. Always do your own research before making any changes to your lifestyle, especially any choices that can affect your health.

Remember, journaling isn't just about putting thoughts on paper; it's about delving deeper into our minds, gaining insights, and using these insights to grow and evolve. The key is to be honest with yourself and open to change.

As we continue on this journey together, remember that this isn't about drastic changes or immediate results. It's about small, consistent steps towards a lifestyle that nurtures our bodies and our minds.
